Class Descriptions:
- Ag Earth 1P: Counts as a regular Earth Science Credit. Meets UC/CSU Requirement "g" – Elective credit. This course will explain how scientists have found it necessary to share their research across disciplines and try to comprehend the Earth’s complexities, including how it is being affected by human activities. It brings together the agriculture interactions that occur in the living and non-living world and provides the learner with a solid understanding of the processes that take place on and around the Earth and the synergies that exist between them. Learners will gain experience through leadership development (FFA), SAE projects, and career exploration in the area of agriculture. Participation in FFA & SAE activities are an integral part of the course grade. Available for Freshman.
- Ag Biology 2P: Counts as a Life Science Credit. Ag Biology is a one year, laboratory science course, designed for the college-bound student with career interests in agriculture. This course emphasizes the life functions and interrelationships of plants and animals, focusing on growth and reproduction, genetics, nutrition, health and disease and the ecological relationships among plants, animals and humans. Students will be involved in “hands-on” agriculture activities and projects. This course satisfies the life science graduation requirement and is UC/CSU “d” approved. Participation in FFA & SAE activities are an integral part of the course grade. Available for grades 10-12.
- Animal Science 3P: Agriculture Science 3 takes an in depth look into the animal science industry in the United States and California. Students will discover what career options are available in animal science, the impact this industry has on our economy and environment, as well as safety measures for the industry. The class will explore general anatomy, physiology (skeletal, muscular, respiratory, circulatory, endocrine, nervous, urinary, lympathic and digestive), genetics, reproduction, nutrition of livestock followed by exploration into each livestock species separately (beef, sheep, swine, etc.). Participation in FFA & SAE activities are an integral part of the course grade. This course satisfies the life science graduation requirement and is UC/CSU “d” approved. Available for grades 11 & 12.
- Vet Science 4P: Veterinary Science is designed to provide students with an opportunity to investigate different aspects of the animal health and care occupations. The content of this course will include: job-search skills, comparative anatomy and physiology, animal reproduction, animal inheritance and selection principles, basic pet grooming skills, animal restraint, nutrition and housing, medical terminology, animal welfare, production practices for animals, how animal products and by-products are processed and marketed, species and breed identification, and disease control/management. This course will also include problem solving, critical thinking, ethics as well as legal responsibilities. Participation in FFA & SAE
activities are an integral part of the course grade. This course is articulated with Modesto Junior College. This course satisfies the life science graduation requirement and is UC/CSU “d” approved. Available for Seniors.
